I hope you are all well? I thought I’d write a note to let you know how I’m proposing to structure my committee for next year. Remember at the AGM which will come in the summer you vote on directors of the club and those directors choose the committee. So if we get voted in this is the structure we will go with.
Helen Garrett-Lang is stepping down as Vice Chair, she has been a great source of energy and challenge to what the committee do and her enthusiasm has pushed the club on leaps and bounds in the last 3 years she has been Vice Chair. I will miss her inputs greatly. She will remain as a director of the club.
Ian Pett is stepping down as Club Captain in its current guise. Ian has been a committee member for 6 years and over the last two his role has been huge, covering the coordination of all hockey activity, setting policies, being our COVID officer, basically the heart beat of the club. His commitment in this role has undoubtedly made everyone’s life at the club better and I’m very grateful he could use his years of project management skills to good effect in his early retirement! The club is in a stable place to push on now, thanks to his tireless work in setting it up. I am really happy to keep his valuable hockey and business knowledge on the committee in a redefined role as the clubs’ COVID officer. He will still be known as the Club Captain
Claire Bowman is moving from treasurer to Vice Chair – Hockey Strategy. She is going to focus on developing talent within the club at every level, let’s create some future stars! She will improve juniors progression into the adult section and be responsible for appointing the coaches to help to deliver this. Basingstoke is Claire’s second & home national league club after playing for Reading 1st team for over a decade, she has some amazing experiences and enthusiasm to bring into this exciting aspect of our club.
Eliot Boyd is moving from secretary to Vice Chair – Hockey lead. He is going to be responsible for the operational side of the adult hockey section, working with section captain’s to appoint team captains, running the PCMs, assigning training slots (DANGER!). Eliot the first pint of the week is always on me! Eliot has been with the club for many years and has been a captain for a good few of those as well as a coach in both juniors and adult sections.
Sarah Shearing is going to be the new Secretary! Exciting times, Sarah’s main challenge, as well as looking after the committee is to look at communications to the club. She is an experienced Risk professional and that keen eye will benefit the committee as a whole.
Chris Garrett is going to be the new Treasurer. Chris works in Finance, he is already the treasurer of another volunteer organisation so has some great skills to bring to team and I’m delighted to have another finance geek on the committee to ogle at the spreadsheets with me. The fact he is a Southampton fan did deter me slightly from getting him involved but once I got over it he will be a super addition.
